How To Choose The Best Saddle?
When it comes to saddles, usually the saddle chooses you and not the other way around. You can purchase the nicest saddle but if it the saddle doesn’t conform nicely to you, riding wouldn’t be as fun.
Support on the saddle usually means getting the correct support on your boney structure, your sit bone and reducing pressure on your soft tissue, preventing the vascular & nerve tissues in the perineum area from being compressed causing numbness.
- To start off, choosing the correct saddle width is crucial to finding the size of saddle you should be using. We usually get this by finding your sit bone width with a special tool.
- We also need to note your flexibility and position you are usually on the bike, really low in the drops or abit more upright, usually on the hoods or Handlebar top.
- Best to test the saddle on the bike with hands in all positions, hoods, drops and even on the top of the bar.
- Riders that are usually on an aggressive position, would normally benefit from a center cut-out in the saddle which help in soft tissue relief in the perineum area.
A the end of the day, it’s always best to test the saddle first to see how the saddle feels after a long ride. Usually a 50-60 km ride will help you identify if the saddle works well for you.
